Helen CarnacARTIST'S STATEMENTHelen Carnac is a metalsmith and academic based in London. As a maker, Carnac is interested in her work being centered self-consciously on the explicit connection between material, process and maker, with an emphasis on deliberation and reflection. Her exploration of industrial vitreous enamel and processes on copper and steel plates is concerned with sustainability, ethics and values within the arena of metals in the global context.VELVET DA VINCI SHOWSANTI-WAR MEDALS -- Artists Respond to the War Anti-War Medals: -- Artists Respond to the War 2003-2007 Britain Now -- All British jewelry and sculpture CHESS -- Contemporary Chessmen by International Makers Rock, Paper, Scissors -- 10th Anniversary Exhibition The Enamel Experience -- International Badge Exhibition Curated by Elizabeth Turrell THE ENAMEL SHOW -- Celebrating 500 Enameled Objects by Lark Books COUNTRY OF RESIDENCEUK EDUCATIONBA Honors Silversmithing, Jewellery and Allied Craft, London Guildhall University,1994 Fachhochschule fur Gestaltung, Schwabisch Gmund, Germany, 1993 B.T.E.C HND Design Crafts, Plymouth College of Art & Design, 1990 Art Foundation, Newport College of Art and Design SELECTED EXHIBITIONSIn Transit…84GHz, Munich, 2008 and 2009 Collect, Saatchi Gallery, London, 2009 Cluster: Installation at Velvet da Vinci, San Francisco, 2009 Open Eye Gallery, Edinburgh, 2009 Elizabeth Turrell and Helen Carnac, University of East Carolina, 2008 Playing With Fire, Juried Exhibition, Devon Guild of Craftsmen and touring, 2008 Collect at the V&A, London, represented by Contemporary Applied Arts, 2008 Process Works, 5 Jewellers: University of Hertfordshire Galleries and touring, 2007 Badges, Museum der Arbeit, Hamburg and touring USA, 2007 Anti War Medals, Gallery I/O, Thomas Mann, New Orleans, 2007 Collect at the V&A, 2006 and 2007 Anti War Medals, Curated by Velvet Da Vinci, Touring: Electrum, London Norway and USA, 2004 Solo: Open Eye, Edinburgh, 2004 Celebrating Education, Contemporary Applied Arts, London, 2003 David Gates and Helen Carnac, Flow, London, 2003 Diaspora Cymreig, Ruthin Gallery: touring and catalogue, 2002 Home Sweet Home, group show, curated by Lesley Jackson for the British Council and touring, 2001-2002 Contemporary British Silver: A Crafts Council Touring Exhibition, Harley Gallery, 2000 Contemporary British Silver: Gallery Marzee, Netherlands, 2000 Heim und Handwerk, Munich, 1999 Living at Belsay: Belsay Hall, Northumberland, 1996 PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCEDirector of the 'Carry the Can' project www.carrythecan.org, 2004 Co-Curator with Craftspace of National touring exhibition 'taking time: Craft and the Slow Movement', 2007 Curator, Process Works exhibition, beginning at University of Hertfordshire, 2005 TEACHINGLondon Metropolitan University.
