ARTIST'S STATEMENT

Over the years, we have evolved into an equal team with a wonderful sense of balance: Salt and Pepper, Ocean and Beach, Pencil and Eraser. Although neither one of our working methodologies has come to be dominant, we have developed a working relationship based on give and take.

Our jewelry occupies an odd space somewhere between logic and intuition. Sometimes an idea dictates which path we follow and, at other times, materials lead us. We share a love of materials, and we have allowed ourselves to be free to explore any materials that we feel are appropriate for a particular piece, whether they be found, manufactures or made by us. Although our work is sculptural, we are concerned about the pieces functioning as jewelry, wearable and intimate objects that address craftsmanship, weight, and scale as much as concept and design.

We are inspired by the place where we live and work, one of natural beauty. Our work conveys allegories about this environment through the creatures who are its players. These are stories about their habits and habitats, as well as our own, coexisting both in the natural and man-made world.

These pieces also serve as a metaphor for us as partners in work and life. The bird, the nest, the egg…all parallel what we do and who we are. They are also an homage to our surroundings and to what we love as artists, parents and as husband and wife.
